Opportunities to Share

The holidays are a time to share love and kindness with everyone around you, but that can be hard to do if you don’t know where to look. Luckily, there are some wonderful community organizations and events that make helping others a breeze. Here are a few ways you can give this holiday season.

Spark of Love Toy Drive 2023: There’s nothing like a child’s face after receiving a great gift. You can be part of this holiday magic by participating in the Spark of Love Toy Drive. Donations are accepted now through December 25. Toys may be donated at all seven fire stations, Biane and Archibald Library, Central Park, and City Hall.

Volunteer with The Salvation Army: Answer for yourself this age-old question: Do you need rhythm to be a Salvation Army bell-ringer? Judging by past listening experience, we’re guessing probably not. If bell-ringing isn’t your thing, how about volunteering as a personal shopper for a needy family?

Safe Celebration

Everyone loves a good candle this time of year, but up to 7,500 fires are started each year by household candles. Be extra careful when lighting candles in your apartment, especially your bedroom. Battery-powered candles can achieve the same ambiance without the added danger. Whatever you do, never leave your holiday candles unattended.

Christmas trees can pose another fire hazard. If you’ve brought a real Christmas tree into your apartment during this holiday season, make sure you keep it watered so it isn’t quite as dangerous. Keep all open flames, especially candles, away from the branches, and make sure you turn all lights off when you’re not at home. You never know when electrical issues might cause fires.

From everyone at The Pines at Montclair, Happy Holidays!
